Setting up your Sky Smart Home Indoor Camera? Here are two top tips to help

Installing your Sky Protect Indoor Camera should be quick and straightforward — but a couple of small details can make a big difference during setup.
If you’re getting started, here are two top tips that can help everything run smoothly from the start.

1. Make sure you’re connected to the right Wi‑Fi

Your Sky Protect Indoor Camera needs to connect to a 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi network to work properly.
Most home Wi‑Fi networks already use 2.4 GHz, but some routers offer both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz options, which can sometimes cause confusion during setup.

How to check your Wi‑Fi connection

Here’s how to make sure your phone is on the right network before you begin:
  • Open your phone’s Wi‑Fi settings
  • Look for your Wi‑Fi network name
    • You might see two options, for example:
      • MyWiFi (2.4 GHz)
      • MyWiFi 5G (5 GHz)
  • Connect your phone to the 2.4 GHz network
    • This may be labelled 2G, or it may appear without any label
  • If you only see one network name, it’s likely already using 2.4 GHz
    • Some routers combine both bands under a single name

A quick but important check

When setting up your camera in the Sky Protect app, make sure the Wi‑Fi name shown in the app exactly matches the one in your phone’s Wi‑Fi settings.
Even small differences — like extra spaces or capital letters — can stop the camera from connecting.

2. Getting the QR code to scan properly

During setup, your Indoor Camera will ask you to scan a QR code shown on your phone screen. If the scan doesn’t work first time, a few simple checks usually fix it.

To help the QR code scan successfully:

  • Peel off the protective film from the camera lens
  • Make sure nothing is obstructing the QR code
    • For example, a cracked or distorted phone screen
  • Turn your phone screen brightness up
  • Hold your phone around 10cm away from the camera lens
These small adjustments help the camera clearly read the code and move you on to the next step.
