If your Sky Smart Doorbell battery seems to be running down faster than expected, you’re not alone and there are a few simple things you can do to help it last longer.
In the best‑case scenario, a Smart Doorbell battery can last up to 90 days. However, real‑world battery life depends on how it’s used. Things like how often it records, clip length, night‑time activity and motion detection settings can all make a big difference.
Here are some easy ways to reduce unnecessary battery drain and get the most out of your Smart Doorbell.
Step 1: Check your signal strength
A weak signal can cause your Smart Doorbell to use more power as it works harder to stay connected.
You can quickly check the signal strength in the Sky Smart Home app:
Here’s how to run a signal test:
- Open the Sky Smart Home App
- Go to Settings
- Under Device Settings, select Devices
- Tap Smart Doorbell
- Under Technical Information, select Signal
- Tap Run Test
For the best performance, aim for a Good signal (3 bars or more).
If the signal is weak, try:
- Moving the Chime closer to the doorbell
- Reducing obstacles between the doorbell and the Chime
Step 2: Adjust your clip recording settings
If your signal is already good, tweaking your recording settings can have a big impact on battery life — especially if your doorbell faces a busy area.
To change clip length and time between recordings:
- Open the Sky Smart Home App
- Go to Settings
- Select Smart Doorbell Settings
- Go to Video Recording Settings
From here, you can adjust:
Clip Recording Length
- 15 seconds – longest battery life
- 30 seconds – standard setting
- 60 seconds – shortest battery life
Time Between Clips
- 60 seconds – longest battery life
- 30 seconds – standard setting
- 15 seconds – shortest battery life
Reducing the default 30‑second clip length can be especially helpful if your doorbell records frequent movement.
Step 3: Reduce unnecessary motion detection
Frequent motion alerts and recordings can quickly drain the battery, even when nothing important is happening.
A few small changes can help:
- Set up an Activity Zone so recordings only focus on areas that matter
- Use the wedges provided to angle the Smart Doorbell away from busy streets or pavements
To set up an Activity Zone:
- Open your Smart Doorbell live feed
- Tap the Settings icon
- Under Smart Doorbell Settings, select Person Detection Settings
- Select Activity Zones
- Toggle Activity Zone to On
- Adjust the zone to suit your space
Extra tips to help your battery last longer
A few additional things can also make a difference:
- Turn off Person Detection if you don’t need it
- Avoid positioning your Smart Doorbell near:
- Thick walls or foil‑backed insulation
- Metal or fire doors
- Large appliances like fridges or freezers
- Keep the distance between your Smart Doorbell and Chime as short as possible
