My doorbell has been on charge for over 10 hours, still displays as being totally dead, states it's doing a fireware update (for a day now), doesn't reboot having tried everything sugggested and is generally utter rubbish!

Switch back on and you will need to recharge it via the usb cable.
May need an overnight or about 6-8 hour charge.

Try restarting the chime as well. The chime pushes the update out to the doorbell.
BTW whilst the doorbell is charging it disconnects from the chime and the app - so don't rely on the battery readings in the app whilst it is charging. Wait until the doorbell LED goes to amber.
