Does the chime have to be connected to the Ethernet cable at all times? As it connects to the doorbell but when I unplug the chime to move into my kitchen it disconnects?

The chime needs to be always connected via ethernet to your broadband router.
The doorbell connects only to the Chime, so needs the chime to be connected via your router for an in internet connection.
