iPad not letting me send texts

Got an iPad for Christmas.

Got the sim card in it and it's letting me use I message but it's not letting me send normal next messages? 
I pay for unlimited texts and unlimited calls. Had anyone had this problem before

Tablets generally only use SIM's for cellular data - not calls or SMS's.

 

Use a messaging app that uses data, such as iMessage, WhatsApp etc.  But they cannot send SMS.

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers
