I'm now considering having a mobile phone contract instead of sim. My question is would I own the phone at any point?

If you don't swap and pay the last 12 months then you own it completely.
For example, as Swap24 contract is 36 months long. (If you don't choose to swap at 2 years then you own it outright after 3 years)
