What's the cooling off period if you purchase a new handset but not a SIM card

I had a phone delivered 1st October. What's the cooling off period for mobile contracts (without the SIM as already had them) we haven't used it but due to technical issues don't want to remain with sky now as struggling to make calls to our land lord as it won't let us press any buttons and the landlord said it's been happening to many sky customers.
