Urgent upgrades to sims - scam

Hi Pretty sure I've had a scam call allegedly from Sky about my current sim being turned off in 3 days and upgraded sims being issued. I won't bore you with the ins and outs of the call but to suffice to say they were trying to get email addresses from me, etc. I'm out of the country and need to be in contact with elderly parents just want to check if anyone else is aware of this. Hopefully not because I won't get the new sim before my return

@Mrs+JD

Current sims are not being deactivated. Hopefully you didn't supply any personal information.

I doubt a new sim is on its way to you. If it is then you seem to have supplied your home address.

It's a scam.

You don't need new SIMs.

As long as you didn't give them personal data then ignore it.  See Sky's help here: https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-scams-help

@Mrs+JD  It sounds like a scam, the only that that is being swotched off is 3G, however as most modern devices support 4G & 5G there is no need to replace your sim.

Did you give them any account information?   If so you need to ensure you both change your Sky account password and check no order for mobile devices have been made on your account.

Like you I'm a customer here, Sky Employees are clearly identified as such.

Re: Urgent upgrades to sims - scam

I got a call this morning stating from SKy and that they were going to be sending me out a new SIM card because mine was only 4G and they would replace (free of charge with no increase in charges) for 5G in order to curb connection complaints.           I queried because I said, my account states my SIM is already 5G and I can get 5G when I'm in range ......... this was poo-poo'd as my SIM was only 4G.

I was wary - I should have listened to the little grey cells!!! -  so long story short, my new SIM is supposedly being delived by DPD tomorrow (I doubt it will arrive) and because my brain was yelling scam I checked the number they were calling from (got flagged as a scam call), double checked an email they had supposedly sent and yes, the address was all wrong so I've changed my log in includuing username and password - JUST to be on the safe side and I've activated the two-step verification as well adding a security question and reply so I feel I've "shut the door on them".         I've also blocked the number and email that they used.

I've been scammed in the past and I've been SO careful - up to today ....... but I shall be definitely putting up barriers now and it won't happen again !!

Definitely the right thing to do @Tricia+C it is most certainly a scam. New phones would have arrived at your house in the next day or two. Then to be returned the next day to an address provided by the post/courier service.

@Tricia+C

With any calls from 'Sky' (especially unexpected calls) if the caller asks for your telephone password to confirm you're the account holder (which I would expect a genuine Sky agent to do) initially give an INCORRECT one on purpose. If the caller doesn't challenge it then you know it'll be a scam call.

Re: Urgent upgrades to sims - scam

good advice for going forward - thank you ...................... I wasn't asked for my home address or personal details - but it was definitely a spoof website which is why I changed my username and password immediately - nevxt thing is to ask for a new SIM card myself with a new number !!
