Trying to call the USA from the UK but saying I have dialled an incorrect number?!

Hi

Im trying to call a store in New York prior to travelling to the USA in a few weeks but it is saying i have dialled an incorrect number.  I know i have the correct number and the format etc is also correct and i have removed spend caps and the like so i am scratching my head as to why its still nto connecting.  Any help anyone?

Hi @foz2002  just to confirm you are dialling + or 00 followed by 1 then removing the first zero from the area code ? Then the rest of the number ?

Yes I have the number entered as +1 212 768-9779 however the I-Phone changes the format to +1 (212) 768-9779.  It says i have dialled an incorrect number but a friend has tried the number and it connects so i can only assume it is something to do with my phone settings or my contract.
