My daugher has unlimited texts and calls but only 3GB of data. she runs out of data each month but then says she cant send a text.
I dont really have a clue about this stuff. Dont want to put her phone package up and not bothered if she cant get online but do want her to be able to text/phone me if shes out which is the point of the phone for me.
Is it because he Imessages toggle is on? if I take this off will she still get unlimited texts?

Thus when she runs out of data the iMessage won't send.
Ensure 'Send as Text Message' is enabled in the settings for messages. (I'd also recommend turning off 'MMS messaging')
Likewise, with phone calls many use something like WhatsApp for calls - which uses data. To make a call ensure the phone app is used to dial - this will work without any data.

If she has no data then she should turn off iMessage and the phone should then send text messages. Beware though if she then sends pictures etc these will be chargeable.
