Seriously regretting moving from Vodafone but I will be going back fast. I got conned and ended up with a **bleep** LTE service!

It's so shockingly bad. I can't believe sky are doing demand generation on it.

Is LTE the same as 4G?
The terms 4G and LTE are interchangeable. Some phones/networks will display LTE and others will show 4G.

I attempted to sign up to Sky Mobile and they couldn't activate the SIM card for me after multiple attempts online and on the phone. That was a huge red flag and I dread what mess they would have made of porting my number across. I'll reconsider after 12 months when I can see how others fare with them.

Xenon81 you haven't a clue!!!
It's 2G, Sky's carrier Vodafone have switched off 3G. Data is switched off during 2G calls also, so no browsing or maps while calling. Ideally you use 4g calling aka VoLte, but Sky botched this and it's not showing on numerous phones, lots of threads devoted to it. WiFi calling also not showing, so a double whammy.

I had exactly the same issue with roaming in the Netherlands while in transit to Paris on 8th November. 3 phone calls to Sky because each one gave me an instruction that cut the call (yes, I should have known better than to blindly follow instructions!) and 3 different people who each gave me different instructions and had no knowledge of previous calls. Got to Paris and all seemed to be fine. On way back through Amsterdam in 14th November seemed to have data but it intermittently disappeared .
Then went to Singapore and Malaysia for two weeks and got an eSIM so turned data roaming off for sky and on for eSIM when I got there and all was good. Landed back in Amsterdam and turned on data roaming and seemed ok but took a while to get a data connection. Got back to Ireland and nothing worked. Could not connect to voice or data . Spent an hour trying every mobile option in the phone. Disabled eSIM and then deleted it. Provider seemed to be stuck on tele2 whoever that is. Found options to change to Sky and then randomly went into services options and settings (that all seem to now not exist but maybe I'm losing my mind) and finally got connected.
Thankfully I was making my own way home and not having to make a call to someone to come get me.
Upshot is there is something very not right with roaming even to the point it leaves your phone in a state when it gets back home.

That sounds remarkably similar to my experience, and we're away in the same area of the Netherlands this weekend, so it's going to be interesting to see what happens, in theory, they've been working on these issues, but the proof of the pudding will be if we can get a service without problems, and at this stage, I'm not interested in messing around for hours, if I can't get the things working the way they are supposed to , and 30 odd years of using mobiles across Europe and the UK is long enough to know how it's supposed to be, I will be pulling the plug on the mobile service, and possibly the broadband as well, at the age I am now, I don't need the raised blood pressure and hassle of trying to sort out problems, it really is that simple these days, get it right or I move to another supplier, it's not like it's a free service, we're paying for it, so it HAS to work.
The issue with the roaming is possibly down to how they set up the Access Point Name system, and that's an area of Android that I don't know enough about, which is problematic, as it seems that Sky don't fully understand it either, there's a Sky.ie app that appeared on the phone, but nobody knows much about it.
I too had problems with the .se file, it also confused Google, I had text coming up on the screen in what I think was Swedish, because of that issue, so it will be interesting to see what happens with this. This is effectively make or break weekend, it took over a month for the tech people to sort out that we couldn't receive incoming international calls from the UK, (Sky UK to add insult to injury) so their track record is not exactly good at the moment.

You asked if 4G and LTE are the same thing, which they are. That's why 4G Calling is also known as VoLTE.

I've had a complete nightmare with them too. On Thursday night I joined up assuming it would be easy as with every other network. Given the proximity to Christmas I chose the eSIM option. A huge error. It was apparently activated and ported my new number yesterday but I had no coverage all day. The guy on WhatsApp said it would work today or to contact them today. Their WhatsApp won't be online till Monday. An absolute shambles.
