Sky Ireland mobile service NOT FIT FOR USE WHEN ROAMING, unable to receive incoming calls
Not a question, more a warning to anyone thinking of using Sky Ireland mobile, they've demonstrated that what they are offering is an appalling and effectively unusable service, I've been on it from the first days, but it STILL is unable to correctly connect calls from Ireland when roaming outside of Ireland, if we're lucky, it MIGHT ring once before going to missed call, but more often, it doesn't even do that, so unless we check on a regular basis to see what is in call history, we don't get to know about attempts to call us.
This issue has been reported to Sky on a number of occasions, but they are clearly technically incompetent, and unable to work out how to deliver the basic service that is required from a mobile phone, and I'm still waiting to hear back if they have resolved the problems we experienced in Maastricht in December 2024, where we ended up with NO mobile data service, and a poor voice service during a trip there.
Sky support attempted to call me not long after we left Ireland on this trip, and that went to missed call with no indication that they'd tried, and I then got a SMS to tell me I'd missed a call, so their system has a record of what went on, but clearly, they don't have the technical skills to properly interpret the log records that are being made by the system.
Enough is enough, I can't resolve this until we get home, but it's clear that serious fires need to be lit underneath the technical support team at Sky Ireland, as they are showing only too clearly that they are not fit for purpose.

Re: Sky Ireland mobile service NOT FIT FOR USE WHEN ROAMING, unable to receive incoming calls
To be honest, Steve, I think this might be an isolated incident. I was worried abiut switching to Sky because I spend 6 months of the year outside Ireland and I use my mobile for everything, including a hotspot for working from home.
A month in and I have not seen any issues, I make and take calls every day. I send and receive SMS messages every day and I use the phone continuously for internet access. The only "missed calls" in my call log are those I remember seeing and ignoring or cancelling.
Also, you can set up an alert that sends a SMS message to you every time you miss a call. It's embedded in a chat history with the cllaer (if one exists). Personally, I'm trying to figure out how to deactivate that!

Re: Sky Ireland mobile service NOT FIT FOR USE WHEN ROAMING, unable to receive incoming calls
Ron,
It's ongoing, in that this issue affected two mobiles, the most recent change is that Sky have sent out new sims for both phones, I'm not sure if I believe the reason, apparently, there were issues with some of the early sims that were sent out, and we were on very early sim cards, but at the moment, I can't check the issue until we're roaming again, which will happen at some stage in the next couple of months, we'll be visiting family again, so will be able to check it out,
What was interesting is that as part of the upgrade to the new sim, before doing the change, I backed up the phone, which was fine, and then it also told me about an upgrade to the phone software, which I did eventually get to install, albeit with some problems caused by Samsung, and we're now on the new sim cards, and have moved up to a newer version of the software on the phone, so in theory, it should be OK, but it's a strange issue, and Sky seem to be struggling big time to resolve it.
