Roaming switched on while on Greek Island of Skiathos, ALL incoming calls barred but sky no help

Roaming switched on while on Greek Island of Skiathos, ALL incoming calls barred but sky no help.

I was on a day cruise on Tuesday 2nd September 2025, the Mamma Mia island tour and the cruise boat dropped all of us off on Kastani beach.

We were supposed to catch a coach or mini bus from Kastani beach that would take us to the Church used in Mamma Mia for the wedding.

However the coach must have set off earlier than they had stated on the cruise boat and when we went to check on the cruise boat, it was leaving.

When I telephoned Jet2 and explained that we be left stranded on Kastani beach, I was told that they would call me back after spesking to the local Jet2 representative.

However, they could not get a call through to my mobile phone and this is when I checked my phone app settings on my mobile phonesettings and found that the call barring of ALLincoming calls was switched on.  I found that I could not switch the call barring off in my phone app, which is where I should be allowed to switch off the call barring features.

Then the Jet2 representative texted me explaining about not being able to connect a call with my phone. He suggested switching roaming on my wifes phone to see if they could call my wifes phone instead of mine. We tried this and found that we could talk and arrange to be collected by another coach and taken, not to the church that we had paid to visit, but straight to the next beach.  Then we found out that whilst my wifes phone could receive incoming calls, her phone would not allow her to make calls.  What an all out calamity we had to go through.

Then I called Sky passed the security questions and explained what the issue was, the advisor I spoke to took notes, but could not figure out a solution.  Bare in mind that I had just told the advisor that my phone had call barring on and I could not switch it off without switching off roaming.  He that said he would have to look into what was wrong and said that he would call me back, but before I could remind him that my phone was not accepting incoming call, he disconnected from the call.

After this happenened I then had to phone Sky again and spoke to another advisor and went through the security questions again and then explained my problem all over again. This advisor said that he would have to put me through to the tachnical help line for which I thanked him.

However, the advisor actually put me through to retentions department which was a surprise, looking back now it may have been a clue as to what action I might end up taking, (cancelling my mobile subscription) but I have not cancelled.

I was now speaking to a retention advisor who I brought up to date with the situation after going through the security questions for the THIRD time.

The advisor did eventually put me through to the technical help line, but I faired no better there. They tried a network update message which did nothing to correct the situation. They finally gave up alltogether and we continued on our trip around to the next beach.

The fact is that the problem persisted throughout the remaining five days of our holiday and I had the opportinity to talk to yet another advisor on the Sunday evening of my return to the uk. By now we had switched off roaming on both phones and mine seemed to be working ok, however my wife still could not make outgoing calls.

He came up with the notion that "maybe both our sim cards had been corrupted when we connected to the Island network. He suggested sending us two new sim cards and putting them in our mobile phones. He also said for me to put mine in first to check if things worked ok. He then said that he would call me on the Wednesday to check if all was ok and also to discuss what compensation we should get for all the inconvenience we had on our holiday.

The cards turned up on Tuesday 9th September and baring in mind that my phone did seem to work properly now that roaming was switched off.  The sim card did work and so did the sim card I put in my wifes phone that could now make outgoing calls.

However the advisor that promised to call back on the wednesday, did not call back. I paid in total an extra £15.10 for roaming when I was away for that fateful seven days.  Granted I used up some of my data piggy bank which did help us find our way around, but NOT having access to incoming calls on my phone and no outgoing calls on my wifes phone was almost the end of the road for my sky mobile contract.

It was only my wifes suggestion to just put it out of my mind that has prevented me from cancelling my mobile contract

Anyone else had a similar issue with Sky?

What makes you think that I am talking to Sky.

I have already talked to sky, in fact I actually called them four or five times due to the fact that neither my phone or my wifes phone were not working as they should whilst in a foriegn country and after being stranded whilst on a day cruise (The Mamma Mia Tour).

In fact it was a total waste of my time as all the promises but ONE were fullfilled by the Sky so called "advisors.

The idea was to put our experiences out there to see if anyone else had gone through anything similar.

At the same time, I was also it seemed just a bit of Therapy to voice my experiences when interacting with Sky Help Lines both good and bad (Mostly bad)
