Re: Roaming passport plus charges

I also notice all the other providers honour free roaming for those who took thier contract out before mid 2021, apart from Sky apparently.

@BALLYNO2

Roaming charges are back with a bang  since Brexit, so if your mobile is never far from your hand it is important to make sure your post-holiday glow isn’t ruined by a shock bill for calls and data when you get home.

Almost all the big mobile phone companies, including EE, Sky Mobile, Three and Vodafone  have reintroduced EU roaming charges, with giffgaff and Tesco Mobile the latest names to announce contract changes.

In 2017, mobile networks in EU countries were banned from charging customers extra to use their phones  in other member countries, with the right to make calls, send texts and, most importantly, use data allowances anywhere in Europe – as if at home – one of the most popular pieces of European legislation in the UK. However, the Brexit  deal did not include continued protection against roaming charges.

Of the big four firms, O2 is the only one that says it is not currently planning to bring back roaming fees, while Virgin Mobile customers should also be safe from roaming charges “for this year at least”

Re: Roaming passport plus charges

Just been reading this post with interest. I'm off to Dubai in 3 weeks time, so when i arrive, i'll receive a text? from Sky regarding the Passport plus scheme, charging £2 per day that i'm there, if i text, call or use data? Do i need to do anything before leaving UK, or will the phone track i'm there?

Hi @Astonman  just ensure roaming is on in your phone settings, everything else should be automatic.

Re: Roaming passport plus charges

Hi - if you have a £0 spend cap then will the roaming passport still automatically apply?  I would like it to however would still want a £0 spend cap over and above that - particularly for my kids

Thanks

Hi @Phil+JB  if your spend cap is zero then the passport won't work, you would need to set it to £2 for each day so £14 for 7 days etc.

Re: Roaming passport plus charges

My mobile worked fine in Dubai and i was charged £2 per day, when I texted. As said elsewhere, make sure, you have set up a spending limit. I think i set £50. Off to Abu Dhabi in March, so hope it work fine again

Re: Roaming passport plus charges

I have 3 phones on account and two are going to USA.

I thought i understood roaming but having spoken to sky am now confused.

I was told that if Roaming Passport Plus has been activated for a particular 24 hours on the two phone in USA then I can call them form the UK and be charged as a UK call. Similarly they could call one another as though it were a UK to UK call.

Does any one know if this is correct or would I have yo pay internatial call charg if I call them?

Re: Roaming passport plus charges

You have misinterpreted Sky's text which is put quite cleverly: Your calls, text and data are included because you had paid the £2. roaming passport plus/24hrs.😀 Siwtch off your mobile roaming if you don't want to be charged Sky's daily rate, instead use the free wifi in your hotel or public wifi  and make whatsapp call free to family and friends.

Re: Roaming passport plus charges

@John9411 that information is correct. You are still calling a UK number even if the phone is physically located elsewhere. Sounds like Sky CS have managed to complicate something that is very simple. Only posible charge could be for the receiving phone but the price guide clearly states that receiving calls in RPP countries are always free and that will not, in itself, activate the £2 charge
