I have just returned from Morocco and not happy with a roaming charge. When I got off the plane I turned my airplane mode off so we could let home know we arrived safe. At the airport I received messages but when outside nothing worked data was picked up and no message received from sky confirming I was abroad. We were told to get data only sims but as first time to the country I wasn't sure. I then tuned roaming off not to find £45 charge for roaming on arrival. No they further charges but just when I got there. Anyone know or answer why this happened?

Because Morocco is a 'Rest of World' tariff not covered by the Passport Plus.
It's £2.16 per MEG of data. So £45 is used rather quickly...

I understand that but is charged that on arrival to the country data wouldn't work outside the airport so how can I get charged £45 ine off charge and then nothing. The same as others I spoke to and they didn't turn their roaming off and got charged nothing else just £45 upon arrival.

It's just 20MB of data which was likely to be smartphone 'chatter' once connecting to the local network.
You can call Sky on 150 and see what they can do - but I suspect they'll say the data was consumed by your device so valid.

Same happened to me in Egypt. As soon as your in the airport your phone connects and uses data so quickly that your spending limit is gone in seconds. Switch off roaming before landing. Investigate prices of local SIMs if you desperately need to be online or depend on finding Wi-Fi
