I use a Sky sim for my internet away from home via a spare iPhone (as a dongle/modem) I've bought a modem with a nano slot but it doesn't get an internet connection when I put the sim into it.

Is there an issue because it's not a phone?

Probably needs APN manually configured:

Name: Sky Mobile Internet
APN: mobile.sky
Username: None
Password: None
MCC: 234
MNC: 57
APN Type: Default
