No signal or data roaming in Corfu

Hi, I just want to check I'm not getting any additional charges for being on holiday in Corfu this week. I got a Welcome to Corfu text on arrival, then one for Albania. I had to  up the spend cap to allow me to contact family. I honestly have no idea what went wrong. I changed to Cosmote as instructed online. Still I had no service calls or texts outwith our villa  or access to maps etc , your advice was to call! How do you do that with no data or signal. I'm really appalled that I was left so vulnerable in a foreign country by the network system and am left worried re the potential costs you may hit me with. Usually its £2 per day and no issues! Can you please advise how to avoid this terrible situation going forward and assure me costs will be no more than usual!

Thanks, unfortunately I only found this out whilst in Corfu and once the second text had come through! Despite changing the Network Service provider I was still left with nothing as the spend cap had been exceeded! I wasnt going to risk increasing it again as it was eating money!

Unfortunately there's no particularly good solution short of towing Corfu about fifty miles west so it's out of range of mainland masts.

Any technical fix is likely to extremely complex, particularly given Sky isn't a local network provider and cellphones are promiscuous by design.

I totally get that. My issue was no way to contact Sky whilst there to understand what was going on and how to get access to data. It may not be sn issue for you but being left uncontable or unable to contact family members was a biggie for me. Apologies for never having been in this situation previously nor having been made aware it was a thing!
