I have just signed up to sky do I need to contact my old provider to tell them

i am switching or is this all done automatically?

As long as you are out of contract with your current network you do not have to inform them that you are leaving as this link explains what you need to do:

Buy the Sky sim

Activate it but do not put it in your phone.

Get pac code from your current supplier

Give Pac code to Sky

When your current sim stops working insert your Sky sim in the phone.
