Make local calls whilst in South Africa

When I try and call a local South African number from my mobile I get "this number is not recognised" message. Roaming is on , I use the correct international prefix and I can call UK numbers.

I have experienced the same in Europe with no resolution. ...and Sky charges me £2 a day for roaming...

Hi @Greg1276  whilst South Africa is covered by the £2 daily charge calls to local numbers are not. They are charged at international rates. Are your spend caps high enough to cover these calls ?

Sky troubleshooting @Greg1276

https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-mobile-roaming-problems

From another site

"When a handset fails whilst roaming, it’s almost always down to the network detection settings having a manual option selected, rather than being set to ‘Automatic’.

To remedy this, go to Settings > Mobile Networks

  • On ANDROID this is Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile Networks > Network Operators
  • On BLACKBERRY select Manage Connection > Mobile Network > Network Selection
  • On iOS it’s Settings > Carriers

and make sure it’s set to ‘Automatic’, which should then enable your handset to detect a local Airtime Provider. Once that is done, restart your handset, and it should connect correctly to the local network."

In the post above I can't find that IOS setting @Greg1276  try settings, mobile service, network selection, change from auto and try different networks.

Also try changing the setting in settings, mobile service, sim applications.

Re: Make local calls whilst in South Africa

Nope - no change unfortunately. Still cannot dial a local number. Had the same issue in France and Italy - wasn't able to resolve in either country
