In america with work, cant make or receive calls,no internet bar connecting to hotel wifi

My husband is in americ on a work trip. Phone not working,can't make or receive calls and Internet not working.  Atm connected to hotels WiFi to allow him to call via whatsapp

also try turning off automatic network selection  in the phone settings then do a manual search and select from the list there. 

if using iPhones also try setting, mobile service, sim applications and try changing the setting there.
