Is this a scam or are sky shutting sims down
This is definitely a scam as Sky never shuts down sims only to send you another one so hopefully you gave this caller no personal or financial details ?

As soon as I said my contract ran out so I'm not on contract they said bye and hung up .
Typically the criminals are hoping to get enough details from the victim to be able to place an order for expensive hardware (usually iPhones) which Sky sends to the account address because to them it looks like a legitimate order. The scammers then get in touch to 'rectify the mistake' by having the victim send the phones on to a different address, at which point they are gone.

Is this a scam
Yes.
the main lies are:
Needing to reissue SIM as they are being cancelled.
A new 5G SIM is required.
