Flase advertising online

I recently went in to Sky to switch to their service as I was out of contract on my previous provider and saw a good deal on the Samsung galaxy s24 on there online website.

The deal was to pay nothing up front but to be on a 36month contract at €41 a month over 36months included in this was the €15 a month unlimited deal and a pair of Samsung headphones.

I decided to make a trip to my local sky store. After sitting with the store assistant and going through all my details he turned to me and informed me I needed to pay €468 upfront. I was taken back as I stated the deal online said nothing upfront, to which he said he doesn't know what's going on with that offer as a few people have come in store seeking the same offer as seen online and all of them were asked for €468 upfront.

I asked how this is even possible and he didn't have an answer. I feel like this offer is basically false advertising as this is not stated anywhere online or in store and only appears as I was ready to checkout.

How are Sky able to make this claim and offer when in fact it's not €0 up front. Very disappointing after making the trip to the store and also finding out I was not the only person who was caught for the false narrative of paying nothing up front but in fact being asked for nearly €500 at checkout stage. What seems to be the actual issue here??

@AMul The no upfront fee isn't available to everyone and will depend entirely on the outcome of your credit check, if you pass with no issues then there will be no upfront fee, however if there are issues whereby you only just pass Sky will ask for an upfront fee(happens the same with other providers aswell).

If you are asked to pay an upfrint fee then this is taken off what you will be paying for the device over the length of the contract.

...because the terms and conditions ('the legal bit') say subject to status and credit check.

I am just another Sky customer and my views are my own even if you don't like the answers

Thanks for the reply. I sent away for an independent credit check when I came home from the store just to make sure this wasn't the case. There is none and never has been an overdue or default payment in my history. As this was the reason stated by sky to  charge me nearly €500 upfront I stick by my previous statement.
