Family member leaving sky piggybank

My son has now turned 18 and wants to have a separate mobile account, how does he leave the family piggybank but keep his number?

The only way is to transfer the number outside of the Sky network first (e.g. to a PAYG) and then back to the new account he sets up.

He would need to order himself a sim here:

If he wants to transfer his number that is on this other account then you would need to use a Pac code to transfer it to a PAYG network and then use another sim via them to transfer it back to his new Sky sim.

Thanks for your responses, he is not at the end of his contract yet, does that make a difference?

Yes.  If he* 'cancels' (that would include transferring out) before the end of 12 months then early termination charges would apply.

* actually only the account holder can do this

Okay thanks, sounds like he'll have to wait until the contract comes to an end unfortunately.
