Cold call with a too good to be true deal

I have just received a call from someone claiming to be calling from Sky who has offered me a new iPhone and sim for £10.99 a month on a 24 month contract and no call charges to anywhere in the UK.  Has anyone else had this?

Plenty, have so as the saying goes, if it seems to good to be true it usually is.

Did you give them any personal information because if it was a call from Sky they should have asked you for your telephone password before continuing with the call so did they ask for this ?

Re: Cold call with a too good to be true deal

@LynnMac1 I had one of these calls last year. I simply said if they were calling from Sky I would ring Sky myself to verify this. I didn't give them any information. In this age of scams it pays to be extra cautious. I rung Sky, who confirmed there had been no calls made by them.

They try to obtain sufficient details so that they can order an expensive mobile phone under your details which subsequently gets sent to your address. The scammers then recontact you saying they've made a mistake and to send it to a (non Sky) address. They then have the device and you have the bill.

With any unexpected calls from Sky if the caller asks for your telephone password to confirm you're the account holder (which a genuine Sky agent should) initially give an INCORRECT one on purpose. If the caller doesn't challenge it then you know it'll be a scam call.
