Change of Account Holder

Some years ago my son needed to change his mobile phone.  At that time Sky mobile seemed to be the best deal available and I took out a contract for my son.  My son uses his phone for his business and so is very keen to retain his number.  I am now in my late 70s and worry that when I shuffle off this mortal coil and my Sky mobile account is closed, he will lose his phone and, more importantly, his number.

Is there any way I can be assured that the contract will pass to my son?  I know I can't do an internal port of the number with Sky.  I'm not even sure that if I port the number to another network whether they will accept the port with a different name.

I cannot believe I am the only person to have encountered this problem.  If anyone can provide me with an answer or some suggestions, I shall be very grateful.

Hi @JoRo48  what you need to do is get him to set up his own account. Then order and activate a new sky sim. Then get a PAYG sim on a different network and port his number from your account to that sim then port back to his new sim. You can't transfer a phone credit agreement so that (if you have one) will remain on your account but he could still use it with his new sky sim. Any new phone should be ordered on his new account.

Re: Change of Account Holder

Thank you for your reply.

I was aware I  could port out to another network and then port back to Sky but it seems unnecessarily complicated.  I don't see what the problem is with a straightforward transfer of the account.  I was hoping I had made a mistake and had not fully remembered what I had been told.

If I have to port out I see little point in porting back to Sky as there are now better deals to be had especially from several of the virtual networks.

Anyway, thank you for taking the time and trouble to respond.  I do appreciate it.

Hi @JoRo48  no problem, it's not just a sky thing, you can't port within the network on other networks too.
