Buying new phone

I currently have a contract out with Sky Mobile and I am due to pay it off in 10 months. I wanted to purchase a new iPhone whilst the old contract is out and then pay the old one off after Christmas. Some how it's been declined. 
can I not have 2 contracts out at a time?

Yes.  It seems you did not pass the credit check.
