Block mobile phone temporarily

I have contrats for my children. I need them to understand the value of what i am paying every month. They do not seem to get it. I wish to freeze their phones temporarily for them to understand the cost and value of using a mobile phone.

Wish I could, freeze/block temporarily on the app rather then reporting as stollen.

Is there a way?
