Annoying Sky force you to kill old number before revealing new one.

When you try to activate a Sky sim it apparently forces you to submit PAC or STAC. So you have to port in immediately or never. Because STAC kills your old number - you can't bring it in later. 

 

I've activated sims from more than a dozen operators and never encountered this before.

They either auto activate or connect when you follow a process online. You get to see the new number before deciding whether to bring in the number from your old provider.
Most even print it on the sim packaging.   

 

I would happily port in my main number to my main phone, but for a backup phone I like to see if the new number being offered is any more memorable than the old.  

 

Maybe a niche preference, but am I right in thinking there's no way around this?

You don't have to use a PAC/STAC when activating a new Sky SIM.

 

It will simply allocate a new number upon activation - and you can decide whether to port in later.

Hi @How2  as mentioned you dont have to use your PAC or STAC at the time of activating your new sky sim. You can if you want but you can choose just to activate the sky sim and port a number at any time you want.

Thank you both. I made the classic mistake of believing what the screen was apparently saying. 

 

On both web and app: 'We'll need your PAC or we'll need your STAC'.  Select which, NOW!'

Now happily up and running, with the option to port in my number later.
