Hi All,
Just tried to activate 5G on my sky mob account, and it says it has been added. But the 5G option in the SIM settings hasn't appeared, and the phone is still on 4G.
(I was with o2 directly on the same phone and 5G worked perfectly! And Wifi and VolTE calling didn't seem to work - but not really worried about that, just data)
Any ideas?

Hi @63johnw
I have a Moto g 5G dual sim phone, and, yes I'm right next to the Earlsdon Exchange (CV1) with full 5G on O2.
Remember I mentioned that I was on o2 (and 5G ! ) previously.
And, yes, I've restarted the phone (and I did receive a text this morning saying 5G has been added)
And, the network setting only offers 4G, so I wonder if the SIM has not been provisioned correctly.
I wonder if I received a 4G SIM only? Although I thought most new SIMs are 5G ready...... but just in case I requested another.
But no luck as yet 😞

"A 5G-ready phone (with 5G enabled and the latest software update from Sky)."
getting the update from sky has been a problem for previous customers.
Also all sky sims now are 5G.

Hi @63johnw
Thanks for the update, I was wondering whether a non 'Sky" phone was the issue. Seems a strange limitation when the SIM free phone works perfectly on o2 directly.
Thanks for your help.

I have recently swapped from O2 to Sky - having bought a new Moto G62 I assumed 5g would "just work". Wrong!!
First of all I needed to get the 5g add-on - which I have done. But I still can't get a 5g connection in central Reading - even though both Sky's and O2's maps show "good 5g coverage outdoors" in this area.
Spoke to Sky over the phone and via chat. They seem to be suggesting that either (i) their coverage map may not be accurate (!), or (ii) there's a signal problem in the area.
Seems highly unlikely to me that it's the signal but I don't have another 5g device to rule it out.
What does "with the latest Sky software mean"? Are they whitelisting specific phone models somehow? Do I need a phone purchased from Sky?

Has anybody found a solution to no 5g on Moto G 5g plus yet? I have the same problem and have rang Sky 150 twice to see if they can get it to work with no luck.

I have recently upgraded from an old Moto 5 to a Moto G53 5G and added the 5G to my account. However there is no sign of 5G on the phone. Ive tried restarting, restarting withiut the sim card and then restarting but the sim still shows 4G for voice and dat in the phone settings. Would a new sim or an esim solve the problem? The Sky guidance and charbot is useless.

Thanks for the suggestion but I've done that. There is a 'preferred network type' and I've selected 5G preffered.

As far as I can see 5G is a scam from Sky as you can't actually get it unless you buy your phone from Sky. I have been trying for 6 months to get it working.
I also have a Giffgaff sim in my dual sim Moto phone which connects to 5G no problem.

@geoffw1946I think you could be right. Maybe time to rethink my Sky Mobile service.

Just saved 50% on my costs and switched to Lebara. 5G straight away.

I have 3 sims on my account. 2 of the sims give 5g when inserted in my Pixel 8, the other one (mine) does not. My sim in my wife's phone does not give 5g either, so in my case it seems like a sim/account problem. I have even tried a new sim, no change. It's now being escalated to network escalations so will see how that goes...
