I am not too sure what specifically you are asking

SKY Q is a system that connects to a Satellite dish and allows watching live channels from the Satllites and also downloads of on demand & other content & is also a platform for other apps.

SKY Q is similar to to SKY HD but allows 4K & apps as a few other benefits

There is no SKY Q app - the app associated with SKy Q is called SKY Go.

Hi @account+inform

With the Sky Q App (Sky Go)  on a mobile device (tablet or phone) you can connect to your Q box whilst at Home on your Network to view content or set and delete recordings.   Some content is also available to download on your Device to view away from your Home. Sky Q

Multiscreen is required in order to achieve the above.   Without Multiscreen you are limited to access of Sky Content over the Internet.

@account+inform the Sky Q app is no longer in use. The Sky+ app when it detects a Q box tells you to use the Q app but Sky withdrew this app years ago and it was integrated into the Sky go app

I may be a Sky Superuser but I am still just a Sky customer

@account+inform

The Sky Q app was replaced with the Sky Go app. This app allows you to watch live tv and on demand content as well as setting recordings like the Sky+ app does.

ah - it is very unforunate & confusing  that the SKY + app directs people to an app that only lasted a short while before being replaced !

I belive the SKY + app can be used with SKY Q but I am not sure off the top of my head how well & what you have to do - others that have posted here probably can advise

Re: what's a SKY Q app, where do get it and why do i need it?

There was a dedicated Sky Q app which was better IMHO it was withdrawn without explanation and the existing SkyGo app was given the functionality to perform basic functions on with Sky Q such as set remote records and download records from a Q box on the same Wi-Fi network to the device the app is on.   Many functions are still lacking such as a first party virtual remote which Sky plus has, there is are third party one but they're full of add often inappropriate ones.

Re: what's a SKY Q app, where do get it and why do i need it?

At the end of the Using Sky Q with sight loss webpage Key Information states:

  • To browse your recordings on Sky Go, you need to be on the same WiFi network as your Sky Q box, and have a Sky Q Experience or Multiscreen subscription.

Curious, I did a search for Sky Q Experience  from  SKY landing page. And to my surprise I got no result.

Maybe there should be a Sky webpage that handles all the defunct stuff or Sky IT "clean sweep" their existing (not-so) help  pages, maybe

Re: what's a SKY Q app, where do get it and why do i need it?

Completely agree they would be very busy. The trouble is it's not like the old days where Sky and others kept as much in-house as possible and company employed got free services which is both a bonus to employees but also the company as they know and use the service daily.   Now unless your lucky enough to get through to a specific department the call centre staff have no idea what the device is let alone how to use it well and therefore easily spotting  misinformation on the product, system information services ans support products.

So it's a case of "if it is only slightly broke, who cares" 😂

Some early adopters of Q may still have the Q Experience package - Sky don't normally change package unless people negotiate new contracts.

Oh and Sky staff still get free Sky TV as part of their standard package - you can see that listed in most of their job adverts.

Re: what's a SKY Q app, where do get it and why do i need it?

@Rscoy I'm aware that sky staff get a staff discount but less and less staff are Sky staff not only customer facing call centres but product development and trouble shooters are becoming more removed but I guess that's natural development as more and more services share the gobal tech from the parent companies.  In reality sky and others have always used products of others to transmit and receive their services but simple things like subtitles and accessible GUI text sizes show it's not a capability Skys own staff have or the altlest power to impliment them.
