Why can’t I open a Sky Go account without a tv

We have 4G Wi-Fi. We have two iPads. We would like to open a Sky Go account.

Sky sales phone line told me we cannot open a Sky account unless we have a tv.

We don't want or need a tv. We just want to watch Sky on our iPads.

Why can't we ?

Because Sky Go is a additional service ONLY for Sky TV subscribers, that allow customers to watch Sky TV whilst out of their homes.

If you don't want to get a full Sky TV subscription then NOW TV is what you should be looking at.

There is no such thing as a Sky Go account, Sky Go is a FREE addition to Skys TV services

@croft1A1

As noted above, Sky is not, and never has been, an app-only platform: it's a provider of subscription television reception based on bespoke Sky-branded hardware.

One option, if you really want access to Go, would be to subscribe to Sky content on a Stream puck: that should activate automatically even if not connected to a television set.

As @MarkGoldsmith indicates, NowTV (also a Sky Group company) might well be a better option as that saves the hardware fee.
