Trying unsuccessfully to install the SkyGo App on a new Apple MacBook Air M3

I can't seem to install the SkyGo app on my new Apple MacbookAir (M3 Processor)

I have followed the instructions on the Sky website for downloading SkyGo to Macs and have downloaded the SkyGo installer.

I click on the installer and it appears to download the app which appears concurrently in the bar at the bottom of the screen however, as soon as the install download completes, the SkyGo app disappears from the bottom bar and cant be located anywhere.

I have tried doing this several times with ther same result.

I called Sky technical support to see if they could help. They puty me through to one of their experts but he was unable to resolve the issue as hadn't come across it before and didn't know why this might be happening.

I'm now stuck and wonder whether anyone can offer a solution or some advice?

Many thanks

Jon

Re: Trying unsuccessfully to install the SkyGo App on a new Apple MacBook Air M3

Hi Jonathan,

A number of forum members and advisors tried to help without success, but I have got it working now thanks to a solution I found on the forum from @Burdentrotter which was posted last year.

It involves installing the Rosetta software which I’d read about. Rosetta translates older applications to the new Apple silicon.

The whole process ( which isn't complicated once you know) took about 5 minutes.

Here's what to do.

Download SkyGo installer for Mac from the SkyGo website

Then, on your MacBook top menu select Go

Then Downloads

Then select  SkyGO installer

Right click on SkyGo installer and a new box opens up which has an option to “open using Rosetta”  Tick that and close the box.

Now click on the SkyGo installer app again and as it starts running, you will be asked to confirm that you want to install Rosetta. Confirm that.

Rosetta will install and then the SkyGo installer app will download fully and the SkyGo app will be in your bottom bar (Dock)  or in Applications found via the Launchpad.

SkyGo should then work.

I hope this resolves your issue too. Good luck,

Jon
