Sky go on Apple TV
Why is the picture quality on the Apple TV app so poor? It's 2025 and the quality is like something from the 90's. It's not too bad on regular tv programmes but it's absolutely horrendous when it comes to sport. Football is unbareable. Why isn't it streamed in 4k? Every other video app out there manages to stream in 4k. It makes no sense. It's as if it's being done on purpose for some strange reason. The only way I can use sky go is by being a subscriber to sky so why shouldn't I be able to get the best picture quality whatever device I use?

Re: Sky go on Apple TV
Couldn't agree more. Set up my Apple TV downstairs on an LG C3 tv and it looks great. Downloaded the Sky Go app as we have Sky Q upstairs & watched a bit of live football this evening. Good grief, picture quality is distinctly meh...made all the more irritating as Sky charge that money grabbing £20+pm "HD" charge.

Re: Sky go on Apple TV
Why would Apple be doing it?
They manage to supply high quality on an Apple TV for Netflix, Disney, Paramount, YouTube and all the other apps apps so if there are quality issues that only relate to viewing on the Sky Go app it's hardly going to be Apple doing it.

Re: Sky go on Apple TV
I concur, the picture quality is aweful. No excuse for it at all, it's not 2010. Not even Dolby Surround too.
Oh and the UI is terrible, can't even mark shows as watched on the continue watching slides and if you turn it off it doesn't seem to put the past show / episode to the front of the que. The whole experience is garbage.
I would use the Q Mini Box in place of it. But they can't match frame rates on that. So 60 hertz shows are still push through at 50 hertz and cause micro stuttering. The solution was to force every through at 60 hertz with some toggle. But then all 50 hertz streamed content stutters. This issue has been here since day one of Sky Q, 10 years Sky!!!
Oh and don't get me started on the speed of the boxes. Select an app, make a cup of tea and come back and it will be loaded speed. These are the reasons why people spend money on Apple TV, after they have spent all their money on new premium tvs to watch premium content.
For the amount of money we all pay each month, well over £100 in most cases. The fine details should be delt with. Premium price, we expect a premium service.
Have a nice day 🤣
