Sky Go Download Update hangs. No go Sky Go.

Tried to get out of this issue for hours and hours uninstalling, reinstalling etc. nothing worked.

Installed a vpn and changed my location, still in uk and hey presto, all working! Weird.

Unbelievable! I used Sky Go yesterday with no issue, I tried to use it this morning and it hung on the "Downloading Update" message, uninstalled and re-installed no joy! Switched on VPN and it worked straight away. What a pain!

Couldn't be bothered to look for a VPN that didn't require my credit card details for a free trial so hooked up to my mobile phone hotspot instead of my router and update went through fine.

Sounds to me that it's intentional behaviour from sky when they detect something unusual to block you from the download servers so the update never connects. Probably done to try and reduce piracy.  A real pain for their users though, especially in these days of understaffed or non-exisant call centers.

As with many people, I have tried various suggested workarounds.  Finally, and for however long, the VPN suggestion made by niarobi.  Thank you!

I don't know if this will help anybody. I have had this problem multiple times on a Windows 11 PC and a Windows 11 Laptop. Tried all the unistall options quoted in various posts without sucess. Then saw some reference to nextwork issues. Tried using my phone hotspot without sucess. Then Tried using my VPN connection (NordVPN) this worked in both cases first time round getting past "Update Download" to sign in page for user name and passord. I then rebooted and was able to get Sky Go to work on my normal Non VPN connection just fine. I don't know if I was just lucky or how long it will last, but this worked for me>

I had this problem for a few weeks

Reinstalled several times. STILL NOT WORKING

SOLUTION - (for me anyway)

Try and open, it will be stuck on downloading

DISCONNECT your wifi

Try and open again - It will say you are not connected to the internet 

There is a button that says TRY AGAIN

Click it, nothing happens

Close APP

RECONNECT your wifi

Open Sky GO - it will say downloading for 10/15 secs and then straight into the username/password

You will have to put your username and password in but it worked!

Thank you, doing that in that order (turning off WIFI, checking that try again, then turning back on WIFI etc..) also worked for me.

Problem has reappeared again! Others have suggested that you turn off wifi, run SkyGo and wait for download message to disappear. Turn on WiFi. Go to Home screen and it should work.

I did this but got a funny error message. Closed SkyGo, turned of WiFi, repeated the exercise and I got in. What a mess but this switch off, switch on WiFi has its merits.

It is still running.....

Didn't work for me....still in blue screen download update hell !!!!

Each time I visit our boat and run SkyGo, the app hangs. In the past, messing around with switching WiFi off and on worked. Today it just wouldn't behave. Eventually I uninstalled it, downloaded latest version and everything was OK. In the past this has rarely worked! What a mess.

I wonder if Windows updates causes the problem?
