Sky Go App installed but does not run and disappears when I try to run

Hello,

I was running sky go app fine on my windows laptop (not sure if its win 7 or 11, but it is 2.5 years old) until a week ago and I thought it might be the internet speed so I decided to reinstall the app. Turns out this is not the issue.

However, since then the app loads and goes through checking for updates but then disappears completely before I even get to the log in screen.

I called sky, who advised I try compatability mode and turn off antivirus. having tried therse options nothing fixed the issue.

The sky go app location is "C:\Users\my folder \AppData\Roaming\Sky\Sky Go\Sky Go.exe"

I am told I could try a fresh reinstallation to factory settings of my laptop but I would rather avoid this as it is cumbersome and would have to backup all my files.

I was wondering if anyone else has the same issue and has any solution to this issue

Thanks

@ken1945

Try removing the app completely by installing it again.

Uninstall the Sky Go app and then go to 'C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Roaming (ensure hidden files/folders are visible) and delete the following folders:

Sky
Sky Go

And if it is present (it might not be) the Cisco and/or Synamedia folder in App\Data\LocalLow.
Empty your recycle bin.

Reboot your PC and then download and install the Sky Go app again via here:

Thank you for your help.

Having tried this when I install and run the app I get an error telling me this app is not compatiable with windows 6, please upgrade to version 10 or later. However I am running on Win 11 .

Have you tried to see if you can use compatibility mode with the app so right click on the install file and select compatibility and select something like Windows 10 then see if it will install.

Re: Sky Go App installed but does not run and disappears when I try to run

Hi - I have the same issue here - just bought a new Windoiws 11 laptop and downloaded the Sky Go installer. Despite running as admin and doing all the steps listed in this thread, when i try and launch it, it says it's checking for updates and then dissappears.

I get the same issue trying to watch skysports via the website - doesn't work. i am logged in as a sky subscriber.

Please heklp with a solution. Thanks.

Nigel

Re: Sky Go App installed but does not run and disappears when I try to run

SOLVED

I have solved this, due to a combination of internet searching and talking to SKY. Solution first:

Go to the Properties drop down on the Sky Go App and select compatability. Then click on 'change emulation settings' and then click on 'Hide x64emulation'. Cliclk OK then Apply and then try to run the app again - it should work from then onwards.

The reason this happens is because the Sky Go app isn't compatable with all chips out there on the market. I recently bought a new windows laptop with Snapdragon x Plus. It seems Sky Go likes Intel chips, but hates ARM or Snapdragon, which to be honest is a major design flaw with the app and something i'm surprised that SKY, with all its resources', isn't doing something about. Its certainly not something that inspitres confidence or creates consumer satisfaction.

But anyway, solved, for me at least - hope it has been solved for you too.
