Recording films and not able to watch them back
When I record or "+" a film on say bbc1 and then go to watch it say 3 weeks later, I often get a message such as - you cannot watch without a Disney+ subscription
I can only assume that the same film has been shown during that period on another channel..... very frustrating as we cannot effectively ever record a film.
Any suggestions welcome please?

Re: Recording films and not able to watch them back
@PA767 basically it's a case of watch live or not at all
film rights are sold to channels either as live and or on demand but never together
in most cases live channels tend to only buy the as live rights only leaving customers who want to watch at a later date in the position you find yourself in now

Re: Recording films and not able to watch them back
When you open the film on your playlist scroll down to Available Now and it will show you all the on-demand apps the film is available on. The default is typically either sky cinema (or if they don't have the film) the app where it's available longer term. The likes of ITV and BBC typically only get the rights to show a film of IPlayer or ItV X for 30 days after the broadcast.

Re: Recording films and not able to watch them back
We have just discovered this also, ive read all the excuses sky has given (never mentions that the record from tv has played back the actual recording for decades) but it boils down to they want even more money, why let us record a free film when they can pretend that its recording and then say you have to buy sky cinema to watch it back. Honestly whats the point in letting us playlist anything if we're not aloud to watch it?

Nothing to do with Sky wanting more money, as in the majority of cases Sky don't own the on-demand rights to the film so how are they financially benefitting from it. Its all down to what rights a broadcaster is getting when they obtain the rights for a film, whether its just a broadcasting right or whether its also a limited time on-demand viewing as well. Once streaming TV became a thing broadcasting rights got a whole lot more complicated with content owners wanting to maximise their revenue and thus they split on-demand streaming rights from the more traditional broadcasting rights for content.
