Is Sky glass tv better than Sky q

Is Sky glass tv better than  Sky q . What are the real advantages in buying Sky glass. Am thinking about buying Sky glass. I got a Samsung tv and the picture is good.

Hi @Peter17 I wouldn't describe Sky Glass as an upgrade but rather a different way to view Sky content but without a satellite dish.  Many people woul actualy describe it as a downgrade.

My own experience is that I had Sky Glass (Gen 1) for 18 months before selling it and purchasing a Samsung OLED TV and soundbar in the black Friday deals in November 2023.  The Samsung picture and sound with a Sky stream puck gives an outstanding and significantly better viewing experience than the Glass Gen 1 TV (I have no experience of the Gen 2 or Air TVs which may be better).

If you want to try the Streaming platform my suggestion would be to get a stream puck and connect it to your Samsung TV.  You will then have 31 days cooling off period to assess if Stream is for  you.  Personally I love it but it is certainly not for everyone.  It is very important that you have a good quality and stable broadband if you want a decent viewing experience.

Do your research.  Good luck.

@Peter17  Sky Q will be ending sometime sky glass is how sky will eventually be as the satellites are getting switched off and streaming for sky is cheaper for sky to run as the costs of the satellites will get more expensive  eventually and streaming is how it will be going forward

@Peter17  I would do as @Fothergill1  and go down the Sky Stream Puck route, if your current TV is working that would be the best option, Gen 2 Glass is better than Gen 1, however do note that for the same price range you could get a higher spec TV from the High Street.

Glass TV's have the Sky platform built in and for many is a neat solution without the need for external devices, I have Gen 2 in the Bedroom as I currently also have a Samsung UHD TV in the Lounge.

Hi @Yoghurt without doubt some people are unlucky and get a faulty puck (just like anything else) but I believe the important thing is having good stable Broadband.   I live in Jersey and the whole Island has been on full 1Gb fibre since the rollout was completed in 2018 (admittedly a small jurisdiction) and in addition we have frequently topped international Broadband surveys & polls.

I am convinced this is why I have had very few problems with the streaming platform (glass and puck) since I moved to the platform in July 2022.   Obviously I suffer the same software issues as anyone else but never the broadband issues.

Re: Is Sky glass tv better than Sky q

@Peter17 if  you are looking for the best picture quality you can get, Glass is not the answer. Q with an OLED or high quality mini-LED is a better bet for picture quality IMHO.

Aside from price, I was happy with Q and then Stream, but currently a suscriber to Now TV.  I'm happy with the monthly price and the picture quality of live events eg. football and F1.
