thinking of switching to Sky Glass
Hi im moving next week and moving my Sky Q to my new address - engineer booked but im thinking is this the time to dump dish install (no dish on new house) and go in for Sky stream. A few questions if I may ...
1 : will it be possible to cancle the sky dish install and switch the order to a sky glass TV/ set up
2 : Yes probably a question asked many times - is it worth the monthly cost for the TV I would be buying through sky im thinking of the 55inch
I know there is no recordings as we get with sky Q which is the only reason I never switched over. But other than that are they benefits of sky glass worth noting ? thanks Dino

I would say not. Arguably the Glass tv is overpriced for what it offers. You could buy your own tv with a better spec and have a Streaming Puck from Sky instead, for better results.

You have no idea how lucky you are! 🤣
Take the advice of @Mark39 and buy literally any other TV with Sky Stream.
If Sky ever get the build of Sky Glass right, you can always add one at a later date.

100% agree.
I cannot understand why anyone would buy a 3 year old piece of mid-range tech for the vastly inflated prices Sky charge.

Re: thinking of switching to Sky Glass
Well Against what seems to the trend of advise I went for it. 55inch . I know its a whole different eco system - and I will miss recording and saving stuff to watch months later. Will also miss many of the old documentaries I have saved since lock down (remember covid 🙂
One of the reasons was my new house im moving to I know the sat dish could only be at the back - so it would mean cables running through the dining room into the living room. Also im in the market for a new tv as my ye olde Samsung althogh has been a faithful servant the past few years is getting tired and I didnt want to fork out 100s upfront for a new TV.
I have heard so many mixed views of Glass - so thought I may as well find out for myself. Knowing my luck my new Glass tv will arrived next week and the next day Sky will launch Sky Glass TV version 2.
I will give it a couple of weeks and if it is really as bad as people seem to be saying I could always switch back to Sky Q within the 30 days cool off period. I know its not the best TV - and some of channels I love are missing but I can get a few of them on my Roku. I did get a pretty good deal 50% off my bill for the first 3 months and free add skipping for a year plus a few other things thrown in but cant remember as my brain is fried from being on the phone over an hour and a half.
So in a few weeks I will either be full of bitter regret dumping Sky Q or one of the rare voices who laude Sky Glass .. but it will be interesting finding out. I will have a 1gig virgin line at my new property so wifi speed no issue. But one question does anyone anywhere have any positives about Sky Glass ... any rare voice of hope or solice or was I truly wrong in going for me new Blue glass tv ....

Re: thinking of switching to Sky Glass
Very rare @dino9898 🥴
But some people do, you only know by trying first hand.
Just remember to separate how good the TV is (not very), with how good the user experience is. You do not need to go back to Q if you like the UX but find the picture and sound disappointing.
Sky Stream is the same UX in a box you can plug into any TV and uses WiFi just like Sky Glass, but you control the choice of screen.

Re: thinking of switching to Sky Glass
To be fair, @dino9898 people.generally only post when they're not happy. I'm sure there are Sky customers out there who are entirely happy with their Glass TVs. I have a small Glass as a dining room TV where it's OK. I have a Sky Stream Puck for my living room tv, much as @stereohaven posted, which, for me, is a better solution. But in light of the negative comments, you might be pleasantly surprised!

Re: thinking of switching to Sky Glass
yes curiosity has gotten the better of me. Plus not having to fork out 100s upfront for a new tv set even though glass is over priced for what it is. All factored into my decison today. And if it is really bad then back to Sky it will go. I think long term sat services which have served Sky and its customers so well over the years is going to be made a redundant technology. Might not be for a few years but the end is coming. Plus I dont ever use my TV for gaming - I dont even bother with sound bars apart from the Roku soundbar I have which is nothing great. So its straight TV watching for me with a fair bit of time watching stuff on Roku that Sky dont have and certainly wont have on Glass. Thanks for the replies 🙂

Re: thinking of switching to Sky Glass
First thing to do is adjust the settings to get the best out of the TV. I followed this thread, adjusted as instructed, then tweaked a little to satisfy my taste. You may be surprised.

Re: thinking of switching to Sky Glass
We have 43" Glass TV in the bedroom, an all in one design being more important/acceptable for my other half. Downstairs we have a separates AV system along with a good higher end Sony TV. No, Sky Glass is not as good on either the audio or video front but is more than good enough given the all in one design. Give it a proper audition when it arrives before deciding whether to keep it or not, but you might be pleasantly surprised.

Re: thinking of switching to Sky Glass
@dino9898 I agree, the ability to buy on credit is a distinct selling point. I don't think you'll find it really bad, but as you posted, you have a 31 days cooling off period to make your mind up and return it, if necessary. As mentioned previously, the 'vivid' picture setting makes the best of the tv's abilities. Let us know how you get on.
