@mrwwt

The teaser invitation which various press sources reported receiving and interpreted as the launch event for a Sky Glass v2 doesn't appear to have contained a date.  If there was one then it's presumably embargoed, because none of the stories mentioned it.

Re: Will there be a Sky Glass 2?

Everytime that the Sky Glass 2.0 story resurfaces I see folk who are clearly bright and appear to be rational fellows in every other aspect of life really letting themselves down. The Sky Glass adopters will circle the wagons and just continue to defend the indefensible no matter what.

The current Sky Glass unit is a rubbish telly and it's a rubbish concept that, in my humble opinion, purely exists to exploit Joe/Joanne Average's penchant for convenience and his/her possible financial constraints too.

You can pick up far superior 2024 LCD's with none of those being locked in to Sky issues for half the price. Even Which? who, let's not beat about the bush here, clearly caters for the more mature readership and thus a demographic that gobbles up convenience were brutal in not recommending Sky Glass.

It goes without saying that Sky Glass 2.0 will be more of the same so all I can say is, don't do it!

If giving an opinion that states the obvious, including some facts to back it up makes me a miserable so 'n' so I'll take it

End of the day we like what we like so enjoy whatever Sky's Glass LCD brings to your table and I'll enjoy those inky blacks only OLED can produce 🫡

Re: Will there be a Sky Glass 2?

We've got a 55" CX with a Beam Gen 2 and Sub Mini in our bedroom which some might argue is overkill, of course I strongly disagree.

Even in the spare room there's a 55" C9 so this is a 100% OLED household and has been for a quite a few years now.

Re: Will there be a Sky Glass 2?

@Chasloyal I always say, what I choose to spend my money on is nobody's business (except for the Mrs 😉) and conversely what other people choose to spend their money on is none of my business.

Having said this, the reason I did not choose Sky Glass was because (1) I wanted better picture quality (2)  I think it is a butt ugly tv,  and (3) I thought it was overpriced for what it is.

I seriously doubt I will get Glass 2 even if it is OLED and aesthestically looks like a stunner because (1) I am not wanting to be tied down to any more of  Sky's 12 or 24  month contracts.

At the moment, Nowtv offers what I need  viz. UHD which I can view on 3 devices with any smart tv or streaming device) and I like their 30 day contracts, or short offers.  Currently on a 6 month sports channel package of £32 (incl UHD).

Re: Will there be a Sky Glass 2?

You're absolutely right to point out what folk spend their dough is their business. I totally accept that inadvertently I was encroaching on that tricky ground by giving my frank views on Sky Glass, which most definitely was not my intention.

I can't deny what I said did amount to "don't waste your money" but I was coming from the angle of Sky Glass being a rubbish bit of kit. A rubbish bit of kit that also happens to be way overpriced, rather than me playing the role of amateur financial adviser.

Many would castigate me for having gone through 4 different 'main' televisions in our living room since we moved in to our current abode just under 8 years ago. I would naturally reserve my right to tell them to mind their own as I'll spend my reddies on what I see fit.

Though then I would also add that I needed to go through a couple of 65" flagship LCD's, a Sony and a Samsung, and a 65" LG OLED to arrive at our current 77" LG OLED.

The point being although I finally feel fully contented with our telly now I should have listened to plenty of others right from the beginning. Everywhere I sought advice, be it online or from folk I knew, I kept being pointed in the direction of OLED.

Alas I knew best and let those occasional online tales of burn-in, not to mention being a flagship sort of geezer finding the price of a mid-tier OLED costing the same as the best LCD's, put me off for far longer than it should have done.

So with the fear of contradicting myself I would argue what I was suggesting was that many would regret getting Sky Glass. So it'd be best to totally swerve it in the first place, thus saving themselves the time, effort and money.

Re: Will there be a Sky Glass 2?

@Chasloyal it will be interesting to see what Sky will charge for Glass 2 and how their price  compares to smart tvs with comparable display & specs.

But I have to give it to Sky... they still advertise and sell  2021  spec Glass tvs for £1076+ (65").... I bet Sony, Samsung, LG et al wish they could do that! 😁

2024, I was looking for a 65" replacement to my 55" Philips OLED and the picture quality of Glass was not what the family had become used to.

While I understand that best way to view your tv is from straight on, this is not possible in our living room, and the viewing angle from one of the sofas is far from ideal, but OLED displays are fantastic even when viewed from side on angles.

To replace my Philips OLED, I ended up purchasing an old model (2023) Samsung S92C with a free soundbar and subwoofer for £974 from Samsung.

Maybe for some Samsung head on.jpgangled samsung.jpg it is not as good as the all in one solution of Glass and the upcoming Glass 2, but I can live with it and enjoy it.

Re: Will there be a Sky Glass 2?

Of course television manufacturers would love to take comparable price liberties on their own units but that is the crux of the matter.

Sky is charging extortionate money by literally hoodwinking it's flock in to pulling the trigger on second rate old tech by giving it all that 'there's no better way to consume our content than through Sky Glass' patter.

It really is selling ice to the Eskimos as the saying goes, hence it's down to the Eskimos to see through all that old flannel and grab their own ice.

Having our main telly in a central location of the living room for optimum viewing and audio experience was a source of much debate at ours 🫢 Mrs Loyal was extremely unhappy about not getting her way by having it plotted up in the corner. It was the one thing I dug my heels in on and refused to budge an inch #AlphaMale

Re: Will there be a Sky Glass 2?

Hi

Does anyone know when the announcement is then and the launch event is that all the companies etc have been invited to, I thought it was this month sometime?  I phoned Sky again the other day to ask if we can swap Sky Glass 1 and they said they didn't have any info on this,  they also said Sky Glass 2 would be released in May now?  2 separate people told me this that it was May
