I'd wager that was before Sky was sold to Comcast.
I imagine terms and conditions 'don't' apply..
Can't be seeing how Sky Glass was developed and released post Comcast takeover.

Comcast is a different beast since it's takeover.
They've tightened their purse strings.
My point is I don't think they'll give us anything.
But, I'm happy to wait and see.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreA "swap system" for a TV that was bought and ownership transferred was never going to work, the logistics, waste and effort involved make it unrealistic for any commercial business and was nothing more than sales spiel at the time.
The only way it might have worked is if the TV was only ever rented and Sky retained ownership, but that in itself would also be a nightmare to administer.
You are also selling/renting out something that pretty much has no residual value after 5 years.

Little birdie told me that the new Sky glass is made by Hisense, micro led panel and the built in sound bar has gone ! 43, 55 and 65 inch - same as Sky glass. Colour variations have gone too. Only available in black. Price point exactly the same as current sky glass.

Time will tell but I suspect your source is incorrect.

IF the replacement for Sky Glass is made by Hisense and the sound bar has been omitted it might not be a bad thing..
I just got a 55" Hisense with a built in subwoofer and the sound is far superior to the 43" Sky Glass I've relegated to my son's room.
(Who's happy as a pig in muck!)

I believe it was Hisense who made the XClass tv for Comcast (Sky owner) in the USA, this wouldn't surprise me.
if Sky have effectively decided to choose a standard model of tv and basically just put the Entertainment OS inside the tv. Far more cost effective than designing your own tv.
for me the sound bar was very ineffective, my LG OLED has much better sound than Sky glass as do the Sony tvs that cleverly use the screen as a speaker.
as for the coloured versions of tv, I would be interested to see actually how attractive this was to customers, for me it's a bit dated and if that popular other manufacturers would be doing this

No sound bar and no green? Ohh 😐

The XClass TV's were very badly received in the US and were quickly discontinued due to their poor performance, so let's hope (if it's true) that HiSense make a better job of Glass gen2.
It does make sense for Sky to partner with someone like HiSense and offer a much cheaper, more traditional looking TV running Entertainment OS. Money is better spent on newer mini-LED technology and faster processors to give a better overall viewing experience for the customer. If they can offer let's say, a 55" 4K mini-LED FALD TV with multiple HDR formats, perhaps a built-in subwoofer, and Entertainment OS for under £500 then they'll sell a lot of them.
It's interesting to note that HiSense are one of the TV manufacturers who have also partnered with Freely recently, so all their newer models of TV come with Freely on-board. I'm sure this won't be the case with Glass gen2. It'll very much be another Sky branded TV, just manufactured by HiSense using their vast knowledge and mass-manufacturing capability.
I believe that Sky will still continue to manufacture and offer the gen1 Glass TV for those that want the multi-colour options and the built-in soundbar. The design is still selling in Europe and Australia so it makes sense to continue to offer it in the UK. Perhaps it will get a moderate spec improvement to speed up the UI? Perhaps not. It may be re-marketed as the more premium offering with the unique design, soundbar and higher price tag, even though it's using 3+ year old technology. Who knows?
It'll be interesting to see what February brings...

I am just wondering if this announcement it will maybe be a Sky Glass/Stream version 2 with recording facility in the cloud possibly but true recordings like on Sky Q?
I have a 55inch Sky Glass TV very happy with it, my only quarm is the sound, you have to have it quite loud I think, anyone else agree, it has to be nearly half way up the volume bar, whereas I used to have a Sky Stream box connected to my Panasonic TV and that was really loud, only needed to turn up a touch. There are no sound features to make the normal sound louder, unless there are hidden ones somewhere. I seem to remember Sky HD and even Q had a volume increaser option?

It's highly unlikely Sky will take a backwards step and put in hard drives, the stream pucks could not take a hard drive due to their small size

Hi
I was thinking a recording facility in the cloud and not a hard drive, if that's possible in this age of technology??

That's how the system current operates - some content is cloud recorded to Skys servers and watchable for as long as legally Sky can keep the recording, whilst other content is viewable via on-demand apps only.
