We’re saying goodbye to Sky Live

Posted by a Sky employee

Hi Everyone

From today, 4th November, Sky Live customers will start to be notified that Sky Live will cease to operate on 4th December.

Innovation has always been at the heart of Sky, finding new ways to make the TV experience even better for our customers. Sky Live was part of that journey, and we’re proud of the ambition behind it. It’s given us valuable learnings that are helping to shape the future of our products.

We have, however, made the difficult decision to discontinue it, in order to focus our investment on what matters most to customers. In the past few years, we've launched the next generation of Sky Glass TVs in Gen 2 & Air, which we continue to make even smarter through new updates to Sky OS. We have the UK's fastest broadband speeds from any major provider, and we've launched 5 star rated home insurance with Sky Protect.

We understand this news may be disappointing to people who have enjoyed using Sky Live, and we're sorry about that.

We also know our customers have loved the Sky Live games, and so we've invested in bringing more games to Sky Glass & Stream for all customers to enjoy. There's something for everyone in the family, including the newly released Who Wants to be a Millionaire, arcade games like PacMan, child-friendly games from Teletubbies and Spongebob, as well as card and strategy games like Solitaire and Chess.

What happens next?

Sky Live customers will be entitled to a refund for the value that they have paid towards their Sky Live device, this will automatically be sent to the direct debit on their Sky Account or, if they paid in full, the card used to make the purchase within 3 weeks of the 4th November.

For full information and ways to either recycle or return your Sky Live, please see here:

Thanks

Re: We’re saying goodbye to Sky Live

I've been saying that this would happen for months. It was very obvious that Sky Live was an expensive mistake from Sky. No camera accessory for a TV has ever done well. When it was all but erased from the Sky website a few months ago it was clear it was headed for the scrapheap.

I have to applaud Sky for refunding customers though. That's incredibly generous of them to do that. It's also good to see that you can return the device to Sky for recycling by printing off a Freepost label.

RIP Sky Live.

Re: We’re saying goodbye to Sky Live

It's such a shame they are stopping Sky Live. I've been using it for games and for zoom calls with the family.

On the plus side it is good they are giving us all a full refund.

I do wonder when it gets switched off then Sky will eventually unlock 3rd party webcam access so we can still do zoom calls using our Sky Glass Gen1/Gen2 TVs. Fingers crossed!

RIP Sky Live. We barely used you, and you cost us a small fortune, now on the Sky hardware scrap heap along with the Sky Gnome and the Open keyboard.

@Philip+Kal according to the cordbusters article - Lives purchased from anywhere other than Sky won't be refunded. Your mate is out of luck.

I'd say there's absolutely no chance of that, because it would have to be the Glass operating system which provided hardware and software support with zero economic benefit to Sky.

Re: We’re saying goodbye to Sky Live

Kudos to Sky what appeared a flawed idea to some of us has come to pass but Sky are taking ownership and refunding those who bought into it, at least directly and that's understandable too.

"It’s given us valuable learnings that are helping to shape the future of our products."

Let's hope so there are still some misgivings with Glass & Stream.
