Vivid and that backlight..
Hello again,
So after some tinkering this morning with my settings I'm trying out this vivid picture setting.
Question is with this latest update, have they fixed the backlight going haywire and is it best left to Auto or not?
I can't see much difference at midday
In a room subdued by miserable weather..

Re: Vivid and that backlight..
@Anonymous
Are you referring to the automatic adjustment for room light level, or the local dimming?
Personally I suspect the room light adjustment is fundamentally hampered by a not-very-good ambient light sensor, and so probably can't be fixed in software.

Re: Vivid and that backlight..
Yes I've got local dimming on.
But I was referring to the auto (ambient) sensor under the auto backlight setting.
The current light conditions in my house aren't doing much either on or off because it's so dull outside.

I run ours with local dimming on but automatic brightness off.

Re: Vivid and that backlight..
Thankyou.
What is your backlight set to? 50?

More like 80, I think.
I'm seriously considering replacing the Glass set with something else plus a Stream puck, though: the TCL 65C845K Mini LED is looking tempting at £925

Do it. That's a very good TV, and offers vastly superior picture quality to Sky Glass for a lot less money.

Re: Vivid and that backlight..
Backlight default is 50 for non UHD content.
It's 100 for UHD content.
Vivid was displaying vertical black banding as the football match played on.
Switching back to Auto (which has superior sound) fixed that at the expense of being a little dull..
Swings and roundabouts..
