@Paul2872 A few months ago there was a batch of faulty remotes and I wonder if you have received one of them. The newer batch have a white dot under the batteries.
The one fix that has worked for a number of people is to hold the remote at both ends and give it a gentle twist as though you were wringing out a cloth. I admit it does sound weird but it worked for loads of people (including me).
If that doesn't help I would contact Sky and ask for a replacement. In the interim if you have one available a Sky Q remote will work.
