UK TV PLAY App Trial

Hello.

Just a heads up that a UK TV PLAY App has appeared as a trial under apps on Sky Glass & Stream.

It currently links to a curated page & live channels options.

@Alex+Ricote what firmware version is your Glass running? My Glass which is on QS024 and my pucks on QS025 (new version not released for Glass as yet) are not showing that app. 

By any chance is your Glass part of a staff account which is running pre-release firmware?

Hello.

My build version is QS24.011.00P on Sky Glass & 24.012.00P on Stream.

I'm a regular customer not a staff member or trialist.

I found it by clicking onto apps then scrolling down to the very bottom after the section marked Sports & fitness.

Are there any differences/ improvements you've noted on version QS25 on stream?

@Alex+Ricote your right, good find, it is there on my pucks as well. It is unusual Sky to allow trial apps out into the "wild". Not heard anything about a launch from Sky but it would be useful as UKTV are one of the main broadcasters without an app.

Nothing obvious in QS025 I have noticed but Sky often dont turn on new features until most boxes are updated.

Yup there on a puck running QS024.12 for me too. Not checked my Glass yet. It seems to be taking us to the same page as TV Shows > UKTV play which has been there for a while. But hopefully this will morpth into the full app over time!

Be interesting it if stays or disappears again when fully launching. 

I recall before Christmas the ROXI app randomly app, with no fanfare and was then subsequently removed a few days later before reappearing again.

It would be nice if there was easy to find official communcation when new apps become available. Even if it was a banner that appeared on the home page saying, (we have just released app X).

The UKTV Play app has been around for years on other platforms. 

What has happened previously on Glass/Stream when you playlist one their channel's content? Has it cloud recorded instead?

Yes cloud record or some content included in the aggregated section played back from sky's servers.

As I say, right now the trial isn't any different from what has listed under TV Shows > UKTV, but the logo has been updated to the play logo.

Same thing happened with channel 5 .... the cloud recording was great .....

Not sure why it's  popped  up as a trial app, I have been using it on my glass and puck since before Xmas, it has been and still is it the tv shows , Click on that and head down to channels   and its there

Maybe it was precursor trial before U's official launch 16/7/24. Hopefully that's coming to skys products.   I know it's updated on IOS already.  I'm guessing it's more than just a rebrand but a new company providing back end services such as their catchup and streaming apps

Read somewhere that uktv play (U) App is coming to glass soon.

Anyone having problems with accessing certain programmes from the channel u&yesterday still can't get last week's secrets of the underground and when last night's was on we missed the start when we pressed watch from start it played an old episode like last week did?

It's was set to series record on my Q box but for some reason it was mislabelled as S3E2 not S4E3 but it showed the correct recording time and played fine.
