I've got a Sony vw 590es projector. It's great with sky stream in HD but awful in UHD. Frustrating because I switched to Sky to get sky sports in uhd. I've tried the various settings and I think it may be an HDR setting issue on the projector because when I change it the image becomes brighter but too bright and the colours are distorted. If HDR is off the image is v dull. Anyone got any ideas, please?

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@SWJW as I hope you are aware Sky use Hybrid Log Gamma as their HDR system rather than HDR10 which on most displays gives a good HDR image but it has caused issues on some. According to the AV Forums review your projector does support HLG indeed asking your question in their releveant forum may get answers from other owners who are going to be rare amongst this forum's members.
As a non-owner taking a quick look at the manualI would suggest turning on or off features like Dynamic HDR Enhancer and check that the projector is switching to HLG in the Expert Picture settings while Auto should work it may not be. There is a setting in the Function menu for HDMI signal format which may need changing.
Hope thst helps

Thank you Dazzar51 for your reply. I have changed the cable as I thought it might be an HDMI cable problem. I upgraded to an 8k compatable because I was not sure about the old cable. The 8K cable should be fine with 4k according to the supplier but it has made no difference.

Hi Chrisee
Thank you for replying. I am aware Sky use HLG. The projector supports HLG. I tried HLG and get a really flat (dark) image. Its a bit like watching through a curtain. The HDR10 setting makes the image brighter but distorts the colours. It is a bit like both are wrong.
I am new to this so will try an AV Forum as you suggest but if you have other thoughts please feel free to make suggestions.

Thank you everyone for your replies.
I have resolved the issue. Basically while Sky say they suppport HLG it does not seem to work on that setting. I need to turn HLG OFF and I then get a clear image. Seems a shame that Sky do not support HRG in any format or HLG.
Thanks again for your help.
