Swapping from sky Q to sky glass advice

My current Sky Q contact due to end in September.  Looking at sky glass. I would need 3 pucks to replace my 3 mini boxes. Tried looking at the prices ect and its not clear, whether staying with sky Q cheaper or not.  Can't speak with sky just the bot that can't give straight answers. Fully understand I can't record like sky Q does,  yet on sky main page it does not say if I can save programs I like to watch later.  Confused !! Advice much appreciated !!!

@alienmitch2529 I'm a big fan of Glass. It suits how I watch TV, has a good enough picture quality for me and a decent sound system.

I never recorded a lot when I had Q so having everything I watch on demand suits me. You are relying on the content being available on catch up, which on rare occasions isn't always the case due to rights issues etc. You add programmes you want to watch to your Playlist and watch from here once it's been transmitted.

There are also some channels on Q that are not available on Glass/Stream so you need to make sure you're not losing a channel you watch.

Obviously as a streaming service you need a good broadband connection of 25 Mbps for HD and 30 Mbps for UHD content. Also connecting via ethernet cable is advised over using WiFi.

Some will say you can get better TV's and a sound bar for less than a Glass and that is true but Glass is a good, convenient option.

Re: viewing prices - you'd have to check with Sky what they can offer you but you will need a whole home subscription if you have a Glass and pucks.

If you want to wall mount the TV you will need to order it at the same time as you order Glass. It can't be added later. You'll also need to pay for premium delivery (unless you can claim it free as a Sky VIP) if you want it unpacking and placing on its stand. Free delivery means they just leave it at your door and putting the Glass on its stand is a two person job. It is simpler with Gen Two than Gen One sets though.

Hi @alienmitch2529

You can record to some extent. Some channels cloud record, that is record to sky's servers. Some channels (such as BBC, ITV etc) don't let you cloud record. It will add an entry to the playlist but send you to their catch-up service / app (e.g. iPlayer). There is no local hard drive like with Q.

See: https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-stream-faqs and https://www.sky.com/help/articles/your-playlist-and-tv-guide-sky-glass

Also worth noting that it delivers content via broadband not satellite so you need at least 30Mbps to watch in UHD. Additionally not all channels are on Glass / Stream. See: https://www.sky.com/help/articles/tv-channel-list-sky-glass

You would buy your glass and the stream pucks would be loaned to you and need to be returned if you leave Sky or cancel whole home (Glass / stream equivalent of multi room).

Hope this helps.

Re: Swapping from sky Q to sky glass advice

Why can't you speak to sky. I've spoke the them on many occasions. In fact I spoke to them last week to find out more about the deals they have for glass. Then I went to curry's to view the tvs for myself before making the decision to go for sky glass gen 2
