when I click on the prime app it opens to the log in screen. I have tried both methods multiple times both the QR code and by using the 6 digit code. On my phone both ways it says account linked successfully, the TV is then meant to update automatically to our Amazon prime account but it just doesn't do anything. There is no manual log on option so I have just been stuck. Why isn't the TV updating automatically and how do I fix it?

you will need to log onto your Amazon account on a laptop / pc and go into your account and devices and delete some of the devices you no longer need prime on

I assume you are already an Amazon prime member. If so then you need to register for Prime video on the Amazon site (it won't cost anything as it is a perk of Amazon Prime membership). Once done you should then be able to log into Prime video on Glass or Stream.
I had exactly the same problem as you a while back with Amazon Music on my Glass TV. Once registered on the Amazon site all was well and I got access straight away.
