Re: Sky Glass without Sky Account

Hi,

I'm currently contemplating switching from Sky Q to Sky Glass. Why do you think Sky Glass is rubbish? I previously ducked out of this option as early reviews suggested that if you had Sky Q you'd be better off staying with it. However, I'm now interested in having the TV.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

Ask yourself why you want the TV. Do you like the look of it? Do you think it's better than what you currently have? Is there something wrong with how your Sky Q system is working? Just because Sky Glass is newer it doesn't mean it's better than Q.

Sky Glass is very different. It's also very dated technology - the hardware hasn't been updated since it launched over two years ago. You can get much better, more sophisticated smart TVs for less money to which you can add a Sky Stream puck to give you the same Sky streaming service.

Sky Glass is fine for those who cannot have a dish, and are perhaps limited in space and want a tidy, one-box solution for their TV viewing needs.

Also, it relies entirely on you having a fast and stable broadband connection. Without one it's effectively useless.

If anything you should consider Q to Stream not Sky Glass.

with Glass you are getting a TV built on the more basic cheaper tech from around 4 years ago (pre-pandemic) and you aren't getting it at good value based on the smart TVs you can get for the same price bracket that have much better hardware in them.

I fully agree with @Jones_The_Cat and @MarkGoldsmithHaving had Glass for 18 months I recently decided to purchase a new Samsung Smart TV and soundbar.  Coupled with a Stream puck the result is outstanding and I just wish I had made this change ages ago.  Admittedly the new TV & Soundbar cost me more than an equivalent Glass TV but the result is well worth it.

Information can be found here:

Essentially you can use it to access the on-demand apps if you keep it connected to your internet. You can use it as a Freeview TV if you plug in an Ariel and disconnect the TV from the internet.
