I am currently a sky q user and have been for years. I love technology and tempted to make the move to Sky Glass Gen 2. Everything appeals to me apart from...
Thanks in advance

Looks like a TV for those who don't already have Glass? Not an upgrade worthy of replacing current glass Tv ?

I thought the same, I thought gen 2 would at least have 120hz screen, it's basically the same technology as gen 1 but they've tweaked it abit. The picture mode settings in gen 1 are useless anyway, I went into custom settings and did it myself. People commented there's no upgrade option for gen 1 customers and saying you need to pay off gen 1 first before you can upgrade, but it's not an upgrade in a sense that sky offers you a discount for your old glass for gen 2, you basically got to buy gen 2 either outright or finance again, and its upto u to sell your gen 1 for peanuts because no one will want it. People thought it would be bit like samsung mobile phones that you can upgrade and they offer you a trade for your old one. But looks like this isn't the case with sky.

- We have good internet, do you still get any buffering on annoyances?
- Recording live sport, for example, the football is live at 5pm. Can I somehow add to a play list so if I get in late, 5:15pm for aexample, can I still watch from the start.
- With playlist, is it possible to replicate a series link function. For example, TV that is frequent, soap operas for example, can you have the playlist add them automatically once the first one has been added or do you have to keep finding and adding?
- How different is playlist from recording? Will it annoy the Q user or will they just get used to it?
Thanks in advance

I don't, but there's a possibility you could from time to time. Do check out Sky's minimum speed, which I think is ~30Mbps

Every programme on any channel can be watched from start, if it's still on. You can also cloud record the football, which is a bit like Sky Q but in the cloud rather than on your own HDD. You do this by pressing "+" on the remote to save it to your playlist from the EPG.

With Playlist you only series link. Adding to the playlist adds that entire series, and it keeps track of which ones you've watched.

It might feel weird to begin with. The apps are of varying quality, but they get better all the time. When it comes to Sky channels, and many of the non-PSB channels you'll just be watching Sky On Demand or Cloud Recordings which work pretty much as you'd expect coming from Q.
Eg: as we speak, my boy is watching a cloud recording of Nickelodeon from my Playlist. It's exactly as if it was on Sky Q as far as I'm concerned. It recorded it for me when it last broadcast, and now it's available for me to watch.

Probably because it was described as 'just like with Sky Mobile' at the v1 launch event in October 2021
Some of us suggested at the time that this seemed rather impractical: for a start a Glass television would need a really big padded envelope to post back ; )

Thank you ever so much for your reply. Really helpfull. Just a couple more questions to help be clear....
"Every programme on any channel can be watched from start, if it's still on".
How do you mean if still on? If its not still on, can it be accessed another way?
"With Playlist you only series link."
Using a regular show like coronation street, if I add this to the playlist, does this mean I (wife....) could access each show daily automatically?

As in if the next programme hasn't started yet and the one you want to watch is still airing. You can alternatively add it to the playlist before hand if you know you won't make it so that it cloud records (in the case of sports). Or if you didn't you can wait for it to be available on-demand later via iPlayer, ITVX, Sky on demand etc.

Yep. Each new episode will pop up on the show page within the playlist, and as new episodes are released the "most recent" section of the playlist will update to put that show back to the top of the list.

Also worth noting that you'll need to get used to apps loading to play back playlisted programmes if they are on a non-Sky channel.
So Coronation Street will play via the ITVX app if you don't watch it on the live ITV channel stream. If you have the ad-skipping pack you can fast forward through the ads on it or use voice control to skip a few minutes. Same with Channel 4 programmes - they'll play back via the Channel 4 app, Channel 5 via the My5 app, BBC via iPlayer.
Channels which don't have an app should cloud record - ie you will access a saved 'recording' of the live broadcast stream for that particular programme stored on Sky's servers. This isn't a file which is unique to you though, you don't have a personal storage area or planner like you do with Sky Q. You can't delete it, you can just remove it from your playlist.
Not everything can be cloud recorded though - it can depend on streaming rights with individual broadcasters.
It sounds quite complicated but you do get used to it. Some people find it works perfectly fine, often better than Q, whilst others find it frustrating and not as straightforward.

Really useful information, im not sure the app playback hasnt just put me off!!! Sounds messy....clunky even whereas Sky Q is slick. That's really left me thinking now.... I have Sky Q and a pretty good Samsung TV Qled but like tech and fancy a change. Im just not sure if I do the swap, I may be underwhelmed?

In several years it's likely that the satellite s won't be renewed and the only option willl be stream or glass
there's videos on the sky YouTube channel that show the system

That's highly likely and a good point. I'm assuming 3 to 4 years of sky glass gen 1 has ironed out most bugs and issues....
I'm really wanting to go for it but the app situation is a pain. Il check this on you tube thanks

It's worth noting that although you watch via the apps, it's all curated via the playlist. You don't need to hunt or remember what show is on what service. Pressing an episode from the playlist will load the appropriate app (and sometimes gives you a choice of app if it's on multiple) and automatically load that episode. So you don't need to fiddle with app menus really. The biggest problem is just awaiting for it to load up really.
For Sky on demand and cloud recordings it just plays straight away in the normal way, but for licensing reasons they're not allowed to do that on some channels/content.
Perhaps head to a Sky store to check it out in practice.

@SnosRap75 So a couple of things to think about seeing that you love tech and currently own a Samsung QLED.
In changing a good working TV that does not NEED to be changed, I would want to justify the expense of a new TV through experiencing some significant difference e.g. a larger TV or improved picture quality.
If you are looking to replace your QLED with the same size Glass, I am not sure that the picture of the Glass 2 is going to be an improvement over what you currently have. I would suggest checking the picture quality of the Glass 2 first. If the picture quality is comparable or no better, then you are basically giving up your QLED and Sky Q for a Sky OS/ Stream experience.
Personally, I could not justify paying £700+ for the Sky OS and a built in soundbar.
If picture quality is to be improved over your current TV, I would look at either a higher end Mini LED (e.g. Hisense 65U7NQTUK with 1000 local dimming zones) which should give better contrasts and deeper blacks for watching films like The Batman (2022).
The other choice and one which I went for is an OLED TV.
You might recall that for years Samsung developed QLED screen technology as a rival to OLEDs. Samsung did not have any OLED TVs in their lineup. They eventually succumbed and now sell OLED TVs with their own twist e.g. matte screens which are anti-reflection.
OLED TVs are not for everyone, but if you are going to get another TV, ensure that you can see and experience an improvement.
You might find discounts on older / last year's TV models which is how I got my 65" Samsung OLED with a free sound bar for less than Glass Gen 1 or 2.

As an example I press the "plus" button the controls on father brown on bbc in the tv guide
this adds father brown to my playlist
i go into the playlist and click on father brown and all 11 seasons are available
I select the one I want to watch and it opens iPlayer and starts playing it
next time I go into playlist and select father brown it defaults to the next episode after the one I watched
as a bonus there's a separate rail on the home screen called "continue watching" and this stores the last 8 or so shows that you've watched
so I can see father brown is on this rail and it will show the next episode in sequence that I can click on to watch

Again very useful information a lot of sense....
I guess the best thing to do is wait until I can go see the TV on display somewhere and check out the picture... Quite rightly as you say, I dont want to go through all the change just for sky stream!
