Sky Cinema Aspect Ratios

Do movies on Sky Cinema ever change aspect ratio as per the cinematic release? For example, Top Gun Maverick has lots of scenes filmed in IMAX and the aspect ratio changes as the film goes on. When viewing Maverick and other movies filmed partly in IMAX,  through the Prime App for example,  on our Sky Glass the ratios change as I'd expect. However,  it doesn't seem to happen with Sky Cinema. Is it supposed to? Has it ever? I'm sure that it did! I'm losing my mind!!! 🤣

Sky Cinema has rarely, if indeed ever, provided varying aspect ratios for movies. It'll depend on which format Sky have been supplied with by the film's distributor.

All movies shot at 24fps (as most are) are sped up on Sky Cinema and Sky Store to 25fps. You also will only get the HLG format of HDR on UHD content.

Compare this to Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+ or Apple TV+ where you can stream movies at their native frame rate and get access to higher bit-rates, HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Some also offer the varying IMAX aspect ratios on movies shot in that format.

If movie formatting is important to you then Sky Cinema/Store isn't necessarily the best place to get it.
